At Kö-Bogen II in Dusseldorf

“Düsseldorf’s harbour became the Media Harbour and made a name for itself in 1999, especially when Frank O. Gehry completed his new Zollhof there. Most recently, Christoph Ingenhoven presented his Pier One hotel project at another harbour basin, as a pile construction in the water. A bit further north, the demolition in 2013 of the Tausendfüssler (English: “Millipede”) – an elevated road separating the city – was another significant step for Düsseldorf. There was plenty of room for new planning.

This year, Ingenhoven’s Kö-Bogen II commercial building was completed, following Daniel Libeskind’s Kö-Bogen I from 2013. Times are changing fast. While the first Kö-Bogen only has “cuts” with a bit of greenery, the second is largely enveloped by greenery. Ingenhoven also renovated the 1970 Schauspielhaus theatre facing it.
