Christine Hutter is a trained watchmaker and the only woman at the helm of a German watch manufacturer. She revived the traditional watch brand Moritz Grossmann Glashütte i/SA. Grossmann was a luminary. Together with Ferdinand Lange, he is considered the inventor of the watch industry in Glashütte. But after his death in 1885, the studio was dissolved, and no one dared to take on the great legacy.
Hutter was daring. She acquired the rights to the Moritz Grossmann brand and founded Grossmann Uhren GmbH on 11 November 2008. In 2010, they presented their first watch model, “Benu”. It is named after the ancient Egyptian god of the dead and consists of nearly 200 handmade individual parts, featuring a three-stage sunburst polish on the ratchet wheel. The filigree hands alone take an entire day to finish. In 2013, their new manufactory building was inaugurated; since then, five different calibres and six different watch models have been developed. Christine Hutter will be presenting them this evening at Bayerischer Hof.
