This year’s network series is dedicated to the transformation of the (inner) city. With insightful impulses on redensification and the preservation of existing buildings, new mobility solutions, smart city, big data, urban mining, and more. What and how much do we need for a good life? How do we avoid living at the expense of others? How much are we willing to give up? How can we answer these questions together for the future?
HANS-GEORG ESCH is an acclaimed photographer with a fascination for cities and their transformation. Besides collaborating with leading contemporary architectural firms and publications, he has devoted the past two decades to Asia’s megacities, including extended trips to China – with a keen eye for its vastness, the gigantic, and the absurd. His current projects include a series on the ancient city of Pompeii. His photographs have been widely exhibited, including at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the National Museum of China, and the Liechtenstein Museum of Art.
An evening on the power of images, megacities, rise and sudden fall.
